Flange competency testing
Dijkgraaf Support carried out around 4000 flange competency tests in 2018 and 2019, mostly at turnaround with large numbers of contractors.
In the Netherlands, the VCA certificate stipulates that contractor flange fitters must be in possession of the flange diploma WF(pr). Even though flange fitters have a flange diploma, knowledge levels and competence are often unsatisfactory. For major plant shutdowns, companies are particularly eager to test flange fitters in advance as a precondition for carrying out the work.
The method developed by Dijkgraaf Support is comparable with the tests carried out by welders. Welders must complete these tests before starting work and in some cases may be expected to demonstrate their competence by carrying out a test weld.
